LSH Auto support helps Street Side Medics expand to Canberra and Newcastle

Dr. Daniel Nour, Founder of Street Side Medics; Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales; and John Good, Managing Director of LSH Auto Australia.

Recently, the Governor of New South Wales, Her Excellency The Honourable Margaret Beazley AC, KC, a long-time supporter of health care for the homeless charity Street Side Medics, viewed five of the medical service’s mobile clinic vans as they assembled on the Bennelong Lawn, between Government House and the Sydney Opera House.

The occasion was the announcement of Street Side Medics soon launching their service in both Canberra and Newcastle and to mark the commissioning of the latest van donated by Street Side Medics foundational corporate supporter LSH Auto Australia. The company, which is the largest global retailer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has donated five vans since hosting the official launch of the charity medical service at its Mercedes-Benz Sydney facility and donating the first van in May of 2020.

The brainchild of 2022 Young Australian of the Year, Dr Daniel Nour, Street Side Medics has supported thousands of vulnerable Australians to-date. The service has now grown to operate six mobile clinic vans across Sydney, Melbourne and regional New South Wales.

Melbourne service was launched in September of 2024 by Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, at a gala event in LSH Auto’s Mercedes-Benz Melbourne retail facility. The launch of a mobile clinic in the ACT and regional New South Wales is expected early in 2026 and is the next step in Street Side Medics’ broader strategy of expanding services throughout the nation’s major cities and regional centres.

The unique service, which has a no-turn-away policy and currently treats an average of up to 200 patients per week in New South Wales and Victoria, operates in partnership with existing food services, shelters and other homelessness-focussed service providers to alleviate the burdens faced by the homeless in accessing primary healthcare.

The gathering of five of the six vans in one place, especially in front of Sydney icons The Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, was the first opportunity for LSH Auto Australia Managing Director, John Good and Dr Nour to view all five donated vans and reflect on the ongoing relationship between their two organisations.

Dr Nour commented, “Thanks in large part to the support of corporate partners, such as LSH Auto, who contribute financially and in other ways, Street Side Medics currently reaches homeless communities across two states, with our national expansion soon to include Canberra and Newcastle.”

“Today, Street Side Medics has 13 weekly mobile medical clinics, each run by an RACGP accredited General Practitioner, and more than 350 trained volunteers. I wish I could say this amazing team and resources are sufficient, but the reality is that they simply are not. There is no let-up in the demand for our services and the ongoing support of partners such as LSH Auto is critical if we are to expand and reach more vulnerable communities.”

LSH Auto’s John Good reaffirmed the ongoing support as the service looks to further expand. “It was fantastic to see all the vans in one place and we thank Her Excellency the Governor for her interest in the great work that Daniel and his team deliver.

“Like any of the great cities, in both Melbourne and Sydney, sadly, there are those who are vulnerable and fall between the cracks. Daniel saw that some years ago and refused to walk by. When we learned of what he was doing we could not wait to come on board.”

“Our partnership has grown to the donation of five vans. It is a central to our objective of being a contributing and valued member of the communities in which we operate. We are extremely proud of being part of delivering such as valuable service to the less fortunate and we will continue to do so.”

The work of Street Side Medics is undertaken by an entirely volunteer medical staff and supported by generous donations from individuals and businesses. If you would like to help Street Side Medics deliver much needed care to those in need visit https://www.streetsidemedics.com.au/
